Guatemala has a great geothermal, eolic, solar, biomass, bio-fuels, fossil (oil) energy potential. It also has a potential of 5,300 MW for hydroelectric stations, of which only 10% is being utilized.  In geothermics a potential of 1,000 MW has been detected of which only 5% is being utilized.

In hydrocarbons the country has three reservoirs with a potential for the exploitation of oil and natural gas. Guatemala also has the natural resources for the production of biofuel, and offers the best conditions for the production of ethanol, which is produced and exported to international markets.
